Feeling left out every time you see an Available in HD title in front of your favorite show? Wondering why the picture on that new HDTV you bought doesn’t look any better than the old one? Curious what all the hype is about?
i have owned a crt proscan picture tube tv and the black levels on that set was the best. i sold it and then purchased a sony sxrd rear pro 50″ that set was alright but poor side viewing angel and it was no where near the crt black level. i then went and sold that set as well and purchased a sony bravia 52w3000-lcd set having that set in my living room was like having a giant headlight in my room with plenty of motionblur and artifacts when i saw that i knew that lcds have not caught up with plasma sets. that’s when i purchased the pioneer kuro and til this day i have no regrets on purchasing this plasma. those who think that plasma are on they way out are defintely not videophiles because they don’t seem to have good vison if they saying lcd sets are better than plasmas give those individuals some glasses.
Don’t despair. Yes, you’ll need both an HDTV-capable TV and a high-def source to watch HDTV, but it’s easier and cheaper than you might think. Prices for HDTV-capable sets have fallen to $500 or less for small-screen tube and LCD models, and even coveted plasmas are within the realm of affordability for many shoppers. As for sources, the major broadcast networks–namely ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC–offer almost all of their scripted prime-time shows in high definition on their HD channels, and there are lots of other networks, such as HBO, ESPN, and Discovery, that offer high-definition channels
